The short version
This site uses two measurement tools: Google Analytics, which counts visits and tells us which pages get read, and Microsoft Clarity, which records how people move through a page so we can see where the design confuses them. Both are loaded through Google Tag Manager, which also carries our Google Ads tags.
What a cookie actually is
A small text file a site leaves in your browser so it can recognize the same browser next time. Most of them are dull housekeeping. A few are used to track people across many sites, and those are the ones worth being careful about.
Session recording, stated plainly
Microsoft Clarity records your session on this site. That means mouse movement, scrolling, clicks, and which parts of a page you looked at, played back to us later as an anonymous recording. We use it to find out why people stop reading halfway down a page, not to identify you.
Clarity is set to mask text entered into form fields, so what you type into the contact form is not meant to appear in a recording. We are telling you it runs because session recording is the kind of thing a reasonable person would want to know about, whether or not a law requires the disclosure.
You can opt out of Clarity across every site that uses it at choice.live.com, and Microsoft’s own notice is at privacy.microsoft.com.
What this site sets
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one returning browser apart from another so a visit is not counted twice | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics | Holds the current session, so a single visit across several pages counts once | 2 years |
| _clck | Microsoft Clarity | Keeps one browser’s Clarity identifier so repeat visits join up | 1 year |
| _clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Joins the pages of a single visit into one session recording | 1 day |
| wordpress_* | WordPress | Only set if someone signs in to administer the site. Not set for visitors | Session |
Google Tag Manager loads the two tools above and does not set a cookie of its own. Microsoft may also set identifiers on its own domains when Clarity runs, which are outside our control and covered by Microsoft’s privacy statement rather than this page.
What this site does not run
- No social media trackers. No Facebook pixel, no LinkedIn tag.
- No chat widget, which is usually the quietest source of third-party tracking on a contractor site.
- Nothing that sells your data to a lead broker or another contractor.
We run Google Ads, and Google’s advertising tags are loaded through the same Tag Manager container as the measurement tools above. That means some of your visit can be used to measure whether an ad worked, and to show you our ads again elsewhere. We would rather say that plainly than claim a cleanliness we have not verified.
We have also not claimed that nothing here can recognize you across other sites. Google and Microsoft operate their own identifiers, so that promise would not be ours to make. What we can tell you is what we use the data for, which is working out why a page is or is not doing its job, and whether the advertising is worth running.
If any of this changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top will move.
Turning them off
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. You can also browse in a private window, which discards them when you close it.
Nothing on this site breaks if you block cookies. The contact form still works, every page still loads. We simply lose the ability to tell that the page you read was worth writing.

What we do with the details you actually type into the contact form is a separate question, covered on our privacy policy.
