Patio Pavers & Hardscapes · Chicago Suburbs
Paver patios, retaining walls, outdoor steps, and complete hardscape environments built with Techo-Bloc products and a 3-layer engineered base system designed for Illinois freeze-thaw conditions.
Why It Matters
Most paver failures in Illinois are not caused by the paver itself. They are caused by poor base preparation, improper compaction, bad drainage, and installation that doesn't account for freeze-thaw movement.
Techo-Bloc pavers are engineered with finer aggregates and more cement — resulting in fewer voids, lower absorption rates, and superior freeze-thaw resistance. But even the best paver fails on a bad base. We engineer both.
What We Build
Every hardscape project we build is designed around flow, elevation, drainage, furniture zones, shade structures, and the way the finished space connects to the home.
Custom patio surfaces for outdoor dining, lounge zones, fire pit settings, outdoor kitchens, pool surrounds, and complete ground-level living spaces.
Wall systems, steps, and grade transitions that create usable outdoor levels while solving slope, drainage, and layout issues.
Color, texture, scale, border, pattern, and Techo-Bloc collection selection designed around your home and full outdoor living plan.
The Foundation
The surface is only the visible part. The base system underneath is what determines whether the patio stays stable through Illinois weather — and Techo-Bloc's low-absorption pavers are engineered to work with a properly built base.
The deepest layer. Compacted crushed stone provides structural support, drainage, and stability below the finished patio surface.
A precisely graded aggregate layer compacted over the sub-base to distribute load evenly and channel water away from the paver surface.
A bedding layer screeded to the correct finished elevation so pavers lock into position and allow minor movement without disrupting the surface.
Our Material Partner
Techo-Bloc gives us the design flexibility and durability needed for premium outdoor living projects in the Midwest. With 48 paver and slab collections, their products allow the patio, wall, and step materials to feel coordinated — not pieced together from different sources.
Every Techo-Bloc product comes with a lifetime transferable warranty — the strongest in the industry for paving stones.
Why Techo-Bloc
Techo-Bloc is not a standard concrete paver. Every product is engineered with proprietary technologies that directly address the challenges of Midwest weather, de-icing salt exposure, and long-term outdoor use.
Techo-Bloc uses finer aggregates and more cement per mix — creating fewer voids and a significantly lower absorption rate. Less water absorbed = less water to freeze = less cracking and heaving through Illinois freeze-thaw cycles.
Klean-Bloc is a factory-sealed coating that guards against stains, scratches, UV fading, and slipping. It also repels moisture — reducing water penetration and the freeze-thaw damage that destroys lesser pavers over time.
HD2 delivers more particles per square inch than standard pavers — creating a tighter, smoother surface with richer, more vibrant color. HD2+ adds Klean-Bloc protection and a reduced absorption rate for even greater durability.
Techo-Bloc pavers are repeatedly tested with saltwater to ensure they withstand damage from de-icing products used throughout the Chicago winter season — without surface degradation or color loss.
All Techo-Bloc products carry a lifetime transferable warranty — one of the strongest in the industry. For a premium outdoor investment, that matters.
With 48 paver styles — slabs, traditional pavers, wall systems, steps, and pool coping — Techo-Bloc lets us match material across the entire outdoor environment for a cohesive, designed result.

Color, texture, size, and pattern determine whether the patio feels classic, modern, bold, subtle, formal, or relaxed. Techo-Bloc's 48-collection range means we can match virtually any design direction.
Warm tones, cool greys, charcoals, and blended colors are selected to complement the home, deck, railing, structure, and landscape. Techo-Bloc's pigment density ensures colors stay vibrant.
Smooth, stone-like, aged, HD2, and Klean-Bloc finishes affect the look, feel, and slip resistance of the finished patio. The right texture matches how the space will be used.
Small pavers create detail and texture. Large-format Techo-Bloc slabs create a cleaner, more modern, open feeling — especially under a covered pergola or patio structure.
Running bond, herringbone, ashlar, borders, inlays, and accent zones all change the way the space reads visually.
Contrasting borders help define lounge zones, walkways, steps, fire areas, and patio edges — creating intentional zones within the space.
The patio should connect with decks, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, retaining walls, screens, and lighting as one complete outdoor environment.
Part of the Bigger Picture
A paver patio works best when it is designed alongside the deck, pergola, outdoor kitchen, lighting, screens, and furniture layout as one cohesive environment.

Retaining Walls & Elevations
Sloped yards create drainage problems, erosion, and unusable outdoor areas. A well-designed Techo-Bloc wall system solves those issues while creating defined outdoor levels.
Techo-Bloc wall systems — including Systema, G-Force, and Mini-Creta — are double-sided and structurally rated, coordinating with patio materials across the full outdoor space.
Common Questions
Most paver failures are a base problem, not a product problem. Freeze-thaw movement expands and contracts the ground below. If the base is not deep enough, compacted properly, or drained correctly, pavers shift, heave, or settle. Techo-Bloc pavers are engineered with lower absorption rates — specifically to resist freeze-thaw damage — but even the best paver fails on a bad base. We engineer both.
Klean-Bloc is a factory-applied protective barrier on Techo-Bloc pavers and slabs. It guards against stains from food and drink, scratches from furniture, UV fading, and slip hazards. It also repels moisture — reducing water penetration and freeze-thaw cracking. Most spills clean up with soap and water. Learn more at techo-bloc.com.
Yes. All Techo-Bloc products carry a lifetime transferable warranty — one of the strongest in the industry for paving stones. It transfers to the next owner if you sell the home.
Yes. This is one of the best ways to create a connected outdoor living space. A patio below or next to a deck adds usable ground-level space and improves the overall flow of the backyard. We assess structure, drainage, and grade during the in-person consultation.
It depends on the municipality and project scope. Retaining walls, drainage changes, large patios, and work near easements may require review. We assess this during planning and handle every permit submission on your behalf.
